Classics with NOW - Brahms Violin Concerto in D major
This week鈥檚 classic takes us back to our Welsh tour last November, when 麻豆社 NOW performed Brahms鈥檚 Violin Concerto in D major with soloist Aleksey Semenenko and conductor Clemens Schuldt.
Full of light and warmth, Brahms's Violin Concerto is inspired by the Italian sun and dances he played in his twenties with his Hungarian violinist friend, Joseph Joachim, who was known for his masterful technique. The work originally showcased the virtuosic talents of Joachim, and in this performance Aleksey Semenenko, then a 麻豆社 Radio 3 New Generation Artist, provides a fantastic and moving interpretation.
With beautiful melodies, rich orchestration and hearty Hungarian folk rhythms, this piece is perfect listening for a summery Friday afternoon.
