Ethiopia’s ruling party: “the TPLF gave the government no option”
Focus on Africa’s Bola Mosuro speaks to Mestefe Omer, a member of the executive council of Ethiopian prime minister Abiy Ahmed’s Prosperity Party, regarding ongoing fighting in Tigray. The African Union has called for a ceasefire between government troops and soldiers from the Tigray People's Liberation Front, which governs the region. Mr. Omer, who is also Regional President of Somali Regional State, says, “the federal government has a national responsibility to ensure that the laws of the country, and the TPLF has behaved in a way that gave the federal government no option other than to undertake this operation”.
