Classics with NOW: Vivaldi, 'Violin Concerto in A major', Op. 9, No. 6

Vivaldi鈥檚 Violin Concerto in A Major is the sixth concerto in a 1727 collection of twelve concertos written for solo violin, strings and basso continuo. This collection was named 鈥楲a Cetra鈥� after an instrument similar to the lyre, and dedicated to Emperor Charles VI.

The concertos in this set reveal the development of Vivaldi鈥檚 later style, which is widely considered to show glimpses of the upcoming Classical period.

This performance of his Violin Concerto in A Major took place at Cheltenham Town Hall in 2016 with director and soloist Rachel Podger.
