Classics with NOW: Tchaikovsky, Fantasy-overture ‘Romeo and Juliet’
Composed in the late 1880s, Tchaikovsky’s Fantasy-Overture, ‘Romeo and Juliet’, remains a popular concert piece to this day.
Based on one of the most famous love stories in history, Shakespeare’s play of the same name, this piece reflects the characters, emotions and events of the play. Listen out for the dramatic portrayal of the feuding Montagues and Capulets, and the unmissable, soaring love theme that continues to be quoted in popular culture.
This performance took place at St. David’s Hall in 2016 with former Principal Conductor, Thomas Søndergård.
