Ukraine war: Capturing the moments that matter
Journalists in war zones, in the course of doing their job, also gather material which potentially could be used in future war crime prosecutions. Pictures that photojournalist Ron Haviv took in Bosnia over 25 years ago ended up being used in The Hague to help prosecute Serbian war criminals. He's been in Ukraine now since the start of the war.
He describes how this conflict compares with others that he has covered, and the importance of capturing photos that could be used as evidence in future war crimes trials. He says what he has seen is on a par with what he saw on the ground in Bosnia.
He says: "Journalists are aware now that by witnessing these things they are first on the scene. We are trying to ensure that people understand."
