Fighting prejudice to become a female Somali journalist
Somalia鈥檚 first female-only newsroom launched in early April with the aim of focusing on under-reported stories affecting the women and girls in the country that have traditionally been ignored by male-led news organisations.
The pioneering news outlet is called Bilan - which means 'moonlight' - and will provide a rare opportunity for women journalists to research and publish stories they want to tell. What's more, they can do it without fear of harassment. But how hard is it to be a woman journalist in Somalia?
Discussing the challenges female journalists face, the editor-in-chief Fathi Mohamed Ahmed says she doesn't 'care what men think' and shares a message for aspiring young female journalists around the world.
