Mali FM: Massacre claims part of a ‘smear campaign’
Mali's Foreign Minister, Ambassador Abdoulaye Diop, has denied that its military along with Russian mercenaries, executed almost 300 civilians in the town of Moura in the central Mopti region. But he says the allegations of a massacre are being investigated.
Mali has been battling a decade-long insurgency that has affected millions of people. Speaking to 鶹 Africa's Peter Okwoche, the foreign minister said the town of Moura is a “safe haven” for Islamist militants and while the army carried out operations targeting the militants, reports that hundreds of innocent people were killed are false and part of a smear campaign.
