Godfather of American avant-garde cinema explored in New York exhibition
The work and legacy of Lithuanian-born filmmaker Jonas Mekas is on show at an exhibition at the Jewish Museum in New York. Mekas was a driving force in avant-garde cinema who died three years ago at the age of 96. Now, at the centenary of his birth, many of his 90+ experimental films and videos are on show, displaying his 'diary film' approach, offering glimpses of everyday American life.
