Would you want a job counting penguins in Antarctica?
Lots of job adverts try to drum up interest by claiming that the work is like no other, but here's one that can really lay claim: shop manager in Port Lockroy, Antarctica.聽In other words, running the most remote post office in the world. Duties outside the shop include counting penguins on the island.聽 Applications have now closed for the latest posting, and thousands have applied.聽Kirsty Dick is one of those recruiting for the job, a role she did herself in 2018-2019.
She told Newshour what persuaded her to do it.
"It's a tricky job counting 1,000 penguins who are not sticking still for you ... and then thousands of chicks who are running around in big groups."
