Musician and actor Jarvis Cocker tells 5 Live鈥檚 Nihal Arthanayake why going to school in the 鈥渟uburbs of Sheffield鈥� wearing lederhosen 鈥渏ust wasn鈥檛 the look鈥�.

Jarvis was gifted a pair of lederhosen from his relatives in Germany; 鈥淚鈥檓 sure if you were in the right environment like some Alpine village, [you鈥檇 be seen as] looking sharp鈥�.

He described his outfit like 鈥渁n extra out of The Sound of Music or Heidi鈥� and insisted it was inappropriate for 鈥渁n inner-city school鈥�.

鈥淚 was already self-conscious anyway as I was quite tall, I had glasses and long hair etc. but this just took it to a new level.鈥�

鈥淚t went even further because somebody noticed on the front of the shorts, instead of having one normal zip, it had two zips side-by-side which let down a flap鈥�- leading to a nickname that 鈥淚 can鈥檛 repeat鈥�.
