Nearly 70 people have died in severe floods in Bangladesh and India. A week of unrelenting rains have inundated vast areas of the country's north-east region displacing millions from their homes. Harrowing accounts from temporary shelters reveal a shortage of food and fresh drinking water.

"We were stuck for three days without food", says one woman. She goes on to say, "then we were finally rescued by a boat."

Officials say these are the worst floods in more than a century. More than four million people have been affected in Bangladesh and India. Such a large scale crisis is challenging rescue efforts. Troops have been deployed to rescue people and assist with relief material to the stranded. The situation is grim in Assam, India's border state with Bangladesh as well. Indian authorities say the pace of relief work is being hampered by heavy rainfall.
