Chad: ‘We called for a peaceful protest’
Chadian opposition leader Succès Masra speaks to Focus on Africa on the day dozens of people were killed during protests against the country’s military junta extending its stay in power. Mahamat Déby’s administration reneged on a pledge to stand aside in order to allow for the formation of a civilian government, prompting people to join street protests which were banned by the authorities. The government says dozens of people, including members of the military and police, have been killed.
