Egypt hunger striker’s mum: ‘I’m very worried’

Egypt hunger striker Alaa Abdel Fattah’s mum ‘very worried’

The British Egyptian activist Alaa Abdel Fattah has been on hunger strike in a prison in Cairo for seven months. And despite an appeal by the new Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to the Egyptian President, he has had no visit from the British embassy or access to a lawyer.

Today's Martha Kearney spoke to Alaa Abdel Fattah's Mother Laila about what her son has been going through, and how he is being treated by the Egyptian government. She also spoke to John Casson, Former British Ambassador to Egypt, who warned ministers not to lose interest in the case.
