UK trains Ukrainian judges to conduct war crimes tribunals
Attorney-General Victoria Prentis MP says judges from the UK are training Ukrainian counterparts who 鈥榳ere not experts in war crimes before the conflict鈥
The United Nations is currently considering creating an ad hoc court for war crimes committed in Ukraine but the UK has already started training Ukrainian judges to carry out war crimes trials for Russian soldiers.
Victoria Prentis MP is the Attorney-General for England and Wales. She told Newsday: 鈥淲hat is so extraordinary about this conflict is that trials are already taking place. The Ukrainians have already convicted 14 Russian soldiers of war crimes鈥hey鈥檝e got 226 suspects identified, many of whom are in custody and there are 49,000 cases of war crimes already registered for investigation鈥e believe that these prosecutions, carried out fairly and locally send a clear message to Russian soldiers and commanders on the ground that they will be held accountable for their actions.鈥
