Belarusian politician: Treason trial is 'a farce'
Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, the exiled leader of the Belarusian Democratic Movement, is among five set to go on trial today facing charges of treason.
Four others are charged with treason, rioting and calling for international sanctions.
All of the accused are being tried in absentia, with Ms Tikhanovskaya in Switzerland at the meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, where she is set to address business leaders and politicians.
Svetlana Tikhanovskaya joined us on the programme, and told Newsday: "I don't expect anything from this trial. It's a farce, not a trial... The justice system in Belarus has turned into a machine of repression and terror."
