Asian-Americans suffer second tragedy in two days

A multiple killing in California of Asian-Americans just days after another lethal attack.

There's been another deadly gun attack affecting the Asian-American community in California. The police say at least seven people have been killed -- and one injured -- at two farms 50km south of San Francisco, near a coastal community called Half Moon Bay.

The victims are thought to be farm workers of Chinese heritage and it comes just two days after another shooting where eleven people were shot dead by another gunman near Los Angeles. The suspect in the latest incident - Zhao Chunli, 67 - was arrested after he drove himself to a police car park. A semi-automatic handgun was found in his car.

Newsday heard from Evan Low, a California State Assembly member and Chair of the California Asian Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus:

"Unfortunately this is systemic in the United States... but we cannot accept this as a norm and we must take collective action to stop this... proliferation of firearms on our streets. The Asia Pacific Islander community is not immune... to the attacks and terrorism of these firearms."
