Tyre Nichols: President Biden urges calm in Memphis
Tensions are high in the US city of Memphis after five policemen - all fired last week - have been charged with the murder of a black motorist.
Five former police officers have been charged with murder over the death of a black man following his arrest for alleged reckless driving.
Tyre Nichols, 29, was stopped by the policemen in Memphis, Tennessee, but died three days later. Mr Nichol's family say medical post-mortem evidence reveals he was badly beaten.
The five, who are all black themselves, were fired last week following an investigation into the case. Footage from their bodycams is due to be made public.
Fearing a violent backlash, due to a number of high profile deaths at the hands of police over recent years - including that of George Floyd in 2020, which sparked worldwide anger - President Joe Biden has called for calm.
Bria Bolden reports for WMC News 5, the NBC affiliate in Memphis, and has been following the story closely:
鈥淭he family said [Tyre Nichols] had a broken neck and was severely beaten by these five police officers, senseless. A lot of activists say this is something we have never seen before鈥 officers dismissed and charged with murder, so quickly.鈥
