Africa's Great War on stage
A play written by William Kentridge, known as The Head & The Load is currently playing in the South African capital, Johannesburg. The production made its debut in London in 2018 but has never been shown in Africa. It explores the continent's role in World War One and illuminates the untold story of millions of Africans who served with the British, German and French forces. Veronique Edwards caught up with the director of the play, William Kentridge and one of the actors Hamilton Dhlamini. She began by asking William why the role of Africans in World War One remains unexplained.
