Labour waters down £28bn green investment pledge
Rachel Reeves says Labour will not be ”reckless” with public spending
The Labour Shadow Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, has said that "financial stability has to come first" and that the party would not be able to invest a pledged £28bn a year in green industries straightaway if it wins power at the next election.
Instead Labour plans to raise investment on an annual basis, reaching £28bn a year by 2027.
The war in Ukraine has seen inflation soar and the Bank of England has increased interest rates, making borrowing more expensive, in an attempt to tame rising prices.
Today’s Justin Webb spoke to Rachel Reeves about the Green Prosperity Plan and the future of the UK economy.
