Wandsworth stars: What's the secret to 60-year-love?
Timothy West and Prunella Scales talk love and dementia at their Wandsworth Common home.
Prunella Scales and Timothy West are everything you could possibly hope for from a celebrity couple.
For more than 60 years, they've lived inseparably together on the north side of London's Wandsworth Common - an achievement in itself warranting a letter from the King. But even more impressive given a diamond anniversary is almost unheard of in showbiz circles.
Scales will forever be most closely identified with the domineering and long-suffering comedy creation Sybil Fawlty in Fawlty Towers, best defined by one bark of "Basil".
While, West is regarded as one of the great stage actors of his generation, having played King Lear four times in four different decades.
Together, over the last decade, they have had an unlikely hit with Channel 4's Great Canal Journeys. That show in particular has served to document Prunella's dementia, which she's had for more than 20 years - over a third of their married life.
In November, they both spoke to the 麻豆社's Colin Paterson, about how dementia won't break their 60-year love story.
