New technology to help UK's only migrating bat
New technology is helping track the movements of wild birds and other animals at Rutland Water Nature Reserve.
The Motus project is a collaborative global initiative to track the movements of birds and other small flying animals using radio telemetry tracking. Bats, birds and even creatures as small as butterflies and hornets can be fitted with tiny tags which emit a radio signal, meaning they can be tracked and will shed light on the incredible migration journeys these animals make.
The project in Rutland will be used to monitor Jack Snipe, a secretive wading bird that visits the UK in the winter, and Nathusius鈥 Pipistrelle Bats 鈥 one of the UK鈥檚 only truly migratory species of bat.
Ben Jackson went to see the project for himself.
