Helvellyn fell-top assessor retires after 750 ascents
John Bennett has decided to put his ice-axe away, and retire, after 16 seasons climbing Helvellyn in all weathers. John is part of a three man team who every day take it in turns to report on the summit weather conditions between December and March. It's a service that gives walkers important real time information, to decide if they have the experience to tackle the conditions.
