Why Ealing has the 'most bizarre bus route in Britain'

Once a week outside West Ealing station a bus takes a handful of passengers to Ruislip. It's been running for over a year, but you won't find it on any of the signs or timetables.
It's because this service, dubbed a "ghost bus", operates as a permanent rail replacement service for a railway line that no longer runs.
So why does this bus exist? And does anyone actually get it?
