Martin Lewis urges people to check whether they鈥檙e eligible for bereavement payouts
A law change that came into force in February 2023 means that for the first time non-married parents can claim bereavement benefits too.
Martin Lewis urges people to check whether they are entitled to a backdated bereavement support payment or widowed parent鈥檚 allowance.
Speaking to 麻豆社 Radio 5 Live, he said: 鈥淚f your partner died since 2001 and you鈥檙e not married, you had children and you were cohabiting, urgently check out whether you鈥檙e entitled to a backdated bereavement support payment or widowed parent鈥檚 allowance.鈥
鈥淎fter the 8th of February, you won鈥檛 be able to get the backdated claims.鈥
