Papworth鈥檚 pioneering transplant surgeon
A pioneering doctor who performed the world's first heart-lung and liver transplant has retired at the age of 77.
Professor John Wallwork carried out the operation alongside the late Prof Sir Roy Calne at what is now called Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge.
He was also responsible for Europe's first successful heart-lung transplant.
After retiring as a surgeon in 2011, he became chairman of the hospital three years later.
That first ever heart, lung and liver transplant was performed on 35-year-old Davina Thompson in 1986. She lived for a further 12 years.
Professor Wallwork looks back on those ground-breaking operations.
