According to Stephen Robinson, the leader of Chelmsford City Council - Essex needs 300 new GPs every year, because more people need care and a number of doctors are close to retirement.

Dr. Syira Ahsan is from Chigwell and says many doctors are leaving their profession due to burnout and immense pressure. Dr. Ahsan also no longer feels she is making much of a difference.

In a statement, the Department of Health and Social Care said:

鈥淲e have introduced the first ever Long-Term Workforce Plan for the NHS, which will help us transform GP services nationwide, providing 2,000 more GP training places a year by 2031, and there are nearly 2,800 more doctors and 34,000 extra staff in general practice now compared to December 2019. Last year, the NHS also delivered 50 million more GP appointments 鈥� meeting the government鈥檚 manifesto commitment".

鈥淕P funding increased in real terms by 19% between 2017 and 2022, and our Primary Care Recovery Plan is investing up to 拢645 million to expand pharmaceutical services and take pressure off general practice.鈥�
