Walney Island international turtle rescue
This rare Cumbrian visitor is a 50kg Loggerhead Turtle that's been stranded on the beach. Normally a warm water species, its has been driven off course and swept up into our colder latitudes. When the sea temperature gets below 9C turtles become comatose, and drift with the tides. If it recovers, it will be flown out to the Canary Islands, where it will be released back into the wild.
