'No one in the queer community is safe', says Ghanaian LGBTQ+ activist
Ghana's parliament has passed a tough new bill that imposes a prison sentence for anyone convicted of identifying as LGBTQ+. The bill, which had the backing of Ghana's two major political parties, will come into effect only if the president signs it into law.
Newshour spoke to VaBene Elikem Fiatsi, a Ghanaian transgender woman, performance artist and prominent activist who said the community is already being attacked and appealed to local and international lawyers to help prevent the bill becoming law.
