Council changes for Staffordshire: Explained
Discover how plans are set to affect the County Council and district councils such as Cannock Chase, East Staffordshire, Lichfield, Newcastle-under-Lyme, South Staffordshire, Stafford, Staffordshire Moorlands and Tamworth.
James Pearson goes into detail about the proposed 'biggest shake-up in English local government for half a century' and a 'devolution revolution' by the Labour Government, where some councils could be abolished, and others merged, to reduce duplication.
Critics fear it could reduce local decision-making.
Current unitary authorities, such as Stoke-on-Trent City Council, which run all local amenities, will not be merged.
