A former drink and drug addict says metal detecting has "saved him" from slipping back into addiction.

Karl Monks, from Wotton-under-Edge, believes it's the best hobby in the world for ex-addicts who choose to turn their life around.

He picked up a detector for the first time less than three years ago and has since established the Cotswold Metal Detecting Community group, which has more than 130 members and has raised 拢17,000 for charity.

He says the fresh air, focus and community have been "fantastic" for his wellbeing.
