The US House of Representatives has approved a request from the Trump administration to rescind $1.1 billion from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

More than 70% of this federal funding goes to local public radio and television stations, especially those in rural areas, and some are now bracing for 'life or death' cuts.

The measure forms part of an effort by the White House to codify government savings proposed by Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency, or Doge.

Speaking to Weekend's Celia Hatton, Representative Dan Goldman said that President Trump is deliberately targeting independent and objective media sources.
