Liverpool鈥檚 New Superbus
Liverpool is gearing up for a transport revolution with new 鈥済lider鈥 rapid transit vehicles, set to launch in 2028. Currently undergoing road trials, these zero-emission electric buses will connect Liverpool John Lennon Airport to Everton鈥檚 new stadium.
Despite criticism, officials promise speed, reliability, and integration into the wider network.
The project is a key pledge from Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram, who insists the gliders will offer a faster, more reliable alternative to traditional buses.
With dedicated lanes, tap-and-go ticketing, and integration with trains, ferries, and cycle routes, the gliders are designed to carry 30% more passengers than standard buses.
While some critics argue that the city should aim for more ambitious infrastructure like trams, Steve Rotheram counters that gliders are a practical solution that can be delivered within years鈥攏ot decades.
