A Leicesteshire woman has said her appointment as the UK's first female and first openly gay archbishop is 'a sign of hope'.

The Most Reverend Cherry Vann is originally from Whetstone in Leicestershire, but has just been elected as the first female leader of the Church of Wales, as well as its first LGBTQ+ leader.

Vann has been Bishop of Monmouth since January 2020, and was among the first women to be ordained as a priest in the Church of England in 1994.

She told 麻豆社 Radio Leicester's Ady Dayman about growing up in Leicestershire, and what this new role will mean for her.
