Godfather of Ska honoured with blue plaque
The Godfather of Ska, Laurel Aitken, has been honoured with a blue plaque for his work in ska and reggae music.
Laurel was a pioneer of Jamaican music and lived in Leicester with his wife from 1970 until his death in 2005. While he was releasing successful records and touring all over the world, he also gave many Leicester ska musicians their first break.
Now, Laurel has been honoured with a Blue Plaque at The Donkey, a live music venue on Welford Road.
