People with learning disabilities and autism in England are dying almost 20 years younger than the rest of the population, according to research by the charity Mencap and academics at Loughborough University.

To tackle this injustice, people with learning disabilities are taking the lead to help shape the future of their healthcare through Loughborough University’s DECODE project.

The project aims to address the significant health inequalities faced by people with learning disabilities, who often experience poorer health outcomes and shorter life expectancy.

Alix and Dee are part of the project and explain what they feel would help them, and Professor Thomas Jun who leads the DECODE project at Loughborough University spoke to Â鶹Éç Leicester's Ady Dayman.
