The power of play

We visit the children鈥檚 playground where parents aren鈥檛 allowed and talk about the importance of play away from screens.

Play is essential to children鈥檚 development 鈥 kids learn about themselves and the world around them by having fun and taking risks. In some countries scientists have linked a decline in free play with a rise in children鈥檚 mental health problems. In this programme we visit a playground called 鈥渢he land鈥 where no parents are allowed in! This highly-regarded project in Wales now supports adults too, an approach dubbed 鈥減lay-based community development鈥. Plus we visit a 鈥渟oft play鈥 centre in Los Angeles, USA, one of a chain of play spaces that have been created specifically for autistic children and their families.
