The Chancellor has given her clearest indication yet that taxes will rise in the Budget, saying "each of us must do our bit".

In a speech from Downing Street, Rachel Reeves pointed to global challenges, lower productivity rates and the welfare bill for what she called "necessary choices".

But any rises in income tax, national insurance or VAT would mean breaking a pledge in Labour's manifesto.

She will deliver her budget on 26 November.
