The trailblazing female tennis stars of Richmond

Gem Hoahing, Kitty Godfree, and Betty Nuthall are the subject of a new exhibition.

When we think of women's sport we often think of the social changes in the 1950s, 60s and 70s. However, for those seeds to bloom, the groundwork must have been completed before.

A new exhibition at the Museum of Richmond celebrates the lives and careers of 20s tennis stars Gem Hoahing (pictured), Kitty Godfree, and Betty Nuthall. All of them were groundbreaking Richmond sportswomen who helped lay the groundwork for women's sport to flourish.
