After playing in Germany for Borussia Dortmund, handball star Sara Garovic returned to Serbia to play for her hometown club, Red Star Belgrade.

The dream move home however has been effected by events in Serbia. Since November 2024 a wave of protests has gripped the country.

After the Novi Sad railway station roof collapsed leaving 15 people dead, the tragedy has become a symbol for deep rooted corruption.

The protesters are demanding free and fair elections, accountability for the tragedy itself and institutional reform.
