The athletics stadium that was chosen to replace Don Valley in Sheffield has been stopped from hosting competitive events.

England Athletics have removed the licence from the City Athletics Stadium on Woodbourn Road after the stadium failed to demonstrate they'd met the necessary quality standards for their track and field facilities.

Although the stadium can for now continue to be used for recreational use, Sheffield Hallam University who run the site say they cannot afford the 拢1.5m of investment to meet the standards required and are working with Sheffield City Council to identify a sustainable, long term solution.
