Phil Wainman: ‘I was Primrose Phil - I’ve got the t-shirt!’

The hit record producer and song writer takes on the famous 15.

Phil Wainman was born in 1946 in West London and after leaving school at 15 went straight into music, starting out as a drummer, and later moving into songwriting and production.

During his time as a producer he was responsible for huge hits like I Dont Like Mondays, Ballroom Blitz, Blockbuster, Bye Bye Baby and many more for bands like Boomtown Rats, Sweet, XTC and Bay City Rollers.
He also founded his own recording studio in Primrose Hill called Utopia Studios, a popular space for many of the musical stars of the 70s and 80s.

After giving up producing in the early 80s Phil has gone on to have another successful career in property and continues to live in London.

Phil Wainman reveals his favourite haunts, memories, pet hates and everything in between with Robert Elms.
