Rishi Sunak: Labour leadership 'more than personality contest'
Ex-Conservative Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has said it would be 鈥渂eneficial鈥 for any future Labour leader to get the job through a leadership contest.
Mr Sunak, who became PM without a contest when Liz Truss resigned, said reflecting on his own experience that a having a debate over ideas meant a new leader would 鈥渉ave a mandate鈥.
Speaking to Radio 4鈥檚 Today programme, he said he would advise any new PM to 鈥渇ocus overwhelmingly on delivering economic growth鈥 as the 鈥渟ingle biggest priority鈥 for the UK.
He also spoke about the "financial literacy" findings by the Richmond Project, the financial charity he and his wife started, that four in ten people lack a proper understanding of key terms of managing money.
