The Hunger for Fame: Scorsese's 'The King of Comedy' is a Foretaste of Modern Celebrity Culture
Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro made some iconic cinema together in New York in the 1970s and 80s. One of those films that doesn't still have the fame of 'Taxi Driver' or 'Mean Streets' is 1982's 'The King of Comedy.' The movie stars De Niro as Rupert, an aspiring stand-up comedian who is desperate to become famous. It's one of 'American Psycho' director Mary Harron's favourite films.
