Newsday Essentials
麻豆社 Newsday Essentials explores controversies surrounding Zambia's presidential election and hears from five-time Grammy-winning Beninese artist Ang茅lique Kidjo, the first African to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In this episode of 麻豆社 Newsday Essentials, we bring you two important stories from
across Africa. The programme begins in Zambia, where incumbent President
Hakainde Hichilema has been re-elected for a second five-year term after securing
60% of the vote in last week's election. The poll was marred by controversy and
allegations of irregularities, and we hear from voices on opposing sides of the
debate. The programme then turns to music. Iconic Beninese artist and five-time
Grammy winner Ang茅lique Kidjo has become the first African to receive a star on the
Hollywood Walk of Fame. She joins us to reflect on the achievement and what it
means for African artists worldwide.
