Journalist Emily Wood begins investigating the murder of her relative, Great Aunt Eva and finds herself drawn into a case that has puzzled her family for generations.

In 1935, Eva was living in London, where she also used the pseudonym Eveline McGinty, when she was murdered on the night of her daughter’s 13th birthday. An inquest concluded that she had been killed by her boyfriend, who then took his own life – but unanswered questions about what really happened have remained within Emily’s family ever since.

Then, nearly two decades later, Agatha Christie published Mrs McGinty’s Dead.

Following leads across decades, Emily examines original records, explores family lore and asks whether her great-aunt’s murder could somehow have reached Christie and helped inspire her novel.
