Less than half of the 38 Nigerian migrants gathered to be deported by the UK government, were on board the flight that landed earlier today in Lagos. Among them is Adeniyi Raji, a man who maintains he鈥檚 gay was put on the flight and returned to the country he initially fled. The Nigerian government told the 麻豆社 on Wednesday that the affected people, including mothers and grandmothers, some of whom have spent over 30 years in Britain were being sent back to the country for immigration related offences.

Also we鈥檝e heard that at least six people have reportedly been shot dead during a nationwide pro-democracy protest in Sudan. The demonstrations are to mark three years since the uprising that ousted former president Omar al-Bashir. Internet services have been cut in the country鈥檚 capital, Khartoum, in what appears to be an effort to disrupt the protests.

Also the UN Deputy Secretary General Amina Mohammed was among over 2000 people including over 140 ministers of Education who have been attending a 3-day Pre Summit of the Transforming Education Summit in the French capital Paris. They were there to draw a roadmap ahead of the main summit at the United Nations General Assembly in September. Ms. Mohammed is the co-chair of the summit and she spoke to the 麻豆社 Focus on Africa program.
