Angola's only female presidential candidate says women officials are merely cosmetic
Florebela Malaquias is Angola鈥檚 only female presidential candidate and says female officials are merely cosmetic and do not effect real change, hence why she's running
Angola is gearing up to hold its fifth multiparty elections next week, and therefore this is a critical period for the incumbent President Jo茫o Louren莽o, as it will determine if he extends his five years in office. Lawyer and journalist Florebela Malaquias, who leads the Humanist Party of Angola is the only female among eight presidential candidates in the country. In an interview with the 麻豆社's Tom Kavanagh, she says her decision to run is to improve the socio-economic situation of women in Angola.
Also, we still return to Kenya where the country鈥檚 ex-Prime Minister Raila Odinga has declared the election results as null and void. The runner up candidate鈥檚 position is in line with four electoral commissioners who do not agree with the announcement by the head of the electoral commission Wafula Chebukati, in declaring Vice President William Ruto, as the winner of the poll.
Plus, Zimbabwean music artist, Nutty O who鈥檚 first album, Mustard Seed, was released last year and is still topping the country鈥檚 charts. He has been talking to DJ Edu, presenter of This Is Africa, on the 麻豆社 World Service.
