The first members of the South Sudan鈥檚 new unified security service are graduating. Those serving in the force will pledge allegiance to the country, rather than individual leaders, and its formation was a key tenet of the 2018 peace deal intended to end fighting between rival forces allied to President Salva Kiir and current First Vice President Riek Machar.

Plus, the first ship carrying Ukrainian wheat to Africa since the Russian invasion of that country has docked in Djibouti. The cargo is destined for neighbouring Ethiopia, where it is believed as many as 20 million people are in urgent need of food aid.

And ahead of November鈥檚 COP27 UN Climate Change Conference in Egypt, stakeholders from the continent have been taking part in Africa Climate Week in Gabon.
