Why has Kenya lifted ban on genetically modified crops?

Ten years after banning GMO crops and imports, Kenya's government says they can now be grown and sold.

Kenya has authorised the cultivation and importation of genetically modified crops and animal feeds, ending a ten-year ban that had been imposed to protect small hold farmers, crop diversity and even to allay fears that they cause ill health. What will the reversal mean? We hear from a professor in microbiology on the risks and potential benefits.

The authorities in Liberia say they have seized $100m worth of cocaine in a suburb of the capital Monrovia, in what is possibly the largest-ever drugs bust on the continent.

And 13 young women who were abducted by unknown people in Zambia have been rescued months after they disappeared.
