Ukraine's power struggle
Stories from Ukraine's stuttering national grid, the Russian media, Uganda's young voters and the drama of the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco
Pascale Harter introduces stories from Ukraine, Russia, Uganda and Morocco.
Residents of Kyiv are suffering the harshest winter so far since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine began - and Russian missile and drone strikes have hit the city's power grid especially hard in recent weeks. Whole blocks are now without electricity, running water or heating, making for barely survivable conditions. Wyre Davies talked to people trying to stay warm - and workers from the country's nuclear power plants who have serious worries about keeping them safe under continued attack.
The international furor over the United States' plans for Greenland abated a little this week after Donald Trump announced at the World Economic Forum in Davos that he "would not use force" to take over the territory. But there's still great concern over the future of NATO. As Steve Rosenberg explains, the media in Russia have gloried in the signs of disarray in the West.
Uganda has one of the world's youngest populations - the average age is just 21 years old. But it's just returned 81-year-old President Yowerri Museveni to his seventh consecutive term in office. Sammy Awami covered the election in Kampala and heard what the voters were hoping for.
The Africa Cup of Nations was meant to be a showcase for Morocco - showing off its infrastructure and its readiness to hold major sporting events - like co-hosting the 2030 World Cup. The tournament certainly ended dramatically, with a chaotic final in Rabat where Senegal emerged as the champions. Tim Hartley followed the competition and detected some Moroccans' concerns that as new arenas spring up, hospitals and schools are still underfunded.
